I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. Prior to this appointment, I was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the Knowledge Exchange for Resilience, an interdisciplinary research unit at Arizona State University focused on building community resilience in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, USA. My research focuses on inequality, vulnerable populations and, increasingly, the health and well-being of people and communities. Topics of particular interest include economic insecurity, job loss and precarious work, foreclosure and eviction, and food insecurity. In studying these topics, I frequently leverage spatial variation and/or crisis events as a tool for better understanding core processes.

I believe that the quality of scholarship should be measured, not only by its theoretical contribution, but also by how accurately it reflects individuals’ lived experiences and its potential for catalyzing social changes that increase equity and resilience. This type of responsive research demands methodological flexibility, local embeddedness, community engagement, and valuing diverse voices as co-producers of knowledge.
